Ashton Agar bags a hat-trick against South Africa
Australia left-arm spinner Ashton Agar was the highlight during the T20I opener against South Africa at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. Ashton Agar was named the man of the match for his impressive bowling figures that helped the team restrict South Africa for just 89 runs. As a result, Australia brought up a massive 107-run win and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series.
Ashton Agar delivered three good deliveries to outsmart three different batsmen at the crease and it was indeed smart bowling by him to get rid of former South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis, Andile Phehlukwayo and Dale Steyn that saw the hosts stuttering at 44/7. By then, the hosts lost the sheen in the run-chase and eventually gave up in 14.3 overs.
Agar didn’t stop spinning a web on South Africa after taking a hat-trick as he bagged two more wickets and registered his career-best bowling figures of 5/24 in his four-over bowling spell. Ashton Agar’s hat-trick was the second one by an Australian bowler after former pacer Brett Lee claimed a hat-trick against Bangladesh in 2007.
