Asia Cup 2020 to be held in Dubai
The forthcoming season of the Asia Cup will take place in Dubai and both India and Pakistan will play in the tournament, said Sourav Ganguly, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
According to the previous schedule, the Asia Cup 2020 was supposed to be held in Pakistan but the BCCI wasn’t willing to send their team to Pakistan.
While talking to the reporters on Friday (28 February) at the Eden Gardens, Ganguly said: “Asia Cup will be held in Dubai and both India and Pakistan will play.”
India and Pakistan have not met each other in bilateral series since 2012-13 because of political tensions between the two nations. Nevertheless, both the teams have competed against each other in the major ICC events as well as the Asia Cup.
Since 2008, Pakistan has not hosted the Asia Cup which is held once every two years. Sri Lanka hosted the 2010 edition while Bangladesh kept its next three editions.
The previous edition of the Asia Cup took place back in 2018 when the United Arab Emirates was the host nation. Although the matches will be played in the UAE in this year’s Asia Cup too, Pakistan will act as the host nation this time.
The Asia Cup has been on a rotational basis since 2016 alternating between T20Is and ODIs-with the 2020 edition is set to be played in the T20 format in preparation for the imminent T20 World Cup.
