Australia claim first match victory against England
Australia has picked a tremendous victory in the first ODI of the three match series against England by 19 runs to go 1-0 up in the series. Australia and England faced each other after Englad won the semi-final at last year’s World Cup first time in the ODI format. It was Adam Zampa and Josh Hazlewood whose heroics helped Australia to win the match.
Josh Hazlewood (3-26) was destructive with his spells from the very beginning when the home side stared chasing Australia’s 9-294. Besides this, it was Adam Zampa (4-55) who dismissed captain Eoin Morgan and danger man Jos Buttler in quick succession, the hope to win the match went away for the home side.
Opener Jony Bairstow tried to put some resistance for the visiting side as he lifted his flailing strike-rate during a 113-run stand with Billings. Although, Bairstow went for 84, but it was Sam Billings who fought on for a tremendous 118 and tried to took the match.
Before it, the Australian side came up with a surprise as their lead batsman Steve Smith was missing playing the first ODI. According to Australian skipper Aaron Finch, Smith was only left out as a precaution.
David Warner went very early as he couldn’t reach the double figures. Stoinis and debutant Labuschagne tried to stood up but they went soon leaving Australia under pressure. Glenn Maxwell (77) and Mitch Marsh (73) stepped up in Smith’s absence by pulling Australia out of a hole with a gutsy 126-run sixth-wicket partnership.
Although, England tried to come out of the pressure after the fall of leading batsmen , but it was Zampa and Hazelwood whose tight bowling kept the home side low and won the very first match to lead the series with 1-0.
