After a hiccup against India, Australia made a return to winning ways with a five-wicket victory versus Sri Lanka at the WACA. However, it didn’t exactly turn out to be smooth sailing for the hosts. The home side was 10 for 3 and it could have been worse if Meg Lanning was adjudged caught behind off Kavisha Dilhari. Unfortunately for Sri Lanka, they had already wasted their review and couldn’t opt for it.

Lanning and Rachael Haynes then combined to paddle through Udeshika Prabodhani’s spell and piloted the side to its first victory of the tournament. The consistent Jess Jonassen was once again parsimonious, with Megan Schutt Nicola Carey and Molly Strano also chipping in. As Australia take on Bangladesh in their second game in Melbourne, the think-tank would be pleased that most of the batters have found some form. Even one of the mainstays in the batting order, Alyssa Healy, returned to form with a breezy fifty against India.

Barring Schutt’s ordinary show in the first match, Australia’s bowling too has been mostly on the mark. Meanwhile, Bangladesh would take heart from the fact that they put up a spirited show after Shafali Verma gave India a rousing start to restrict their formidable opponents to a total of over 140. The experienced off-spinner and Bangladesh skipper, Salma Khatun, led from the front with a couple of scalps.

The promising Murshida Khatun and Nigar Sultana made decent contributions with the bat, but the duo’s efforts weren’t good enough to help Bangladesh usurp India. For the key game against Australia, Bangladesh would hope for a better show from Jahanara Alam, the main pacer in the attack. The seasoned campaigner came under some pressure while bowling at Verma. Bangladesh’s fielding is another weak-link that Australia would look to exploit.
