Ban vs NZ 3rd T20I Highlights today Sunday, 9-5-2021 – 3rd T20I (D/N), New Zealand tour of Bangladesh from Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
ICC Rankings Test, ODI & T20
The visitor teams captain Tom Latham won the toss and chose to bat.
Latham: We’re going to have a bat first. Yeah, I think the learnings we took from game 1 to game 2 was a massive improvement. Hopefully, we can put up a competitive score on the board. I think we’ve been making those steady improvements and with the ball later on, hopefully, we can defend. Yeah, the way we were able to bounce back was really important, and made those subtle adjustments.
Mahmudullah: Yeah, happy to chase today, and the wicket looks better. We need to come hard, as we’ve been doing. Batting against the new ball is always difficult but the way Liton and Naim batted last game was pleasing. If we restrict them to 130-140, it will be a good job.
Bangladesh team: 1 Mohammad Naim, 2 Liton Das, 3 Shakib Al Hasan, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim, 5 Mahmudullah (capt), 6 Nurul Hasan (wk), 7 Afif Hossain, 8 Mahedi Hasan, 9 Mohammad Saifuddin, 10 Mustafizur Rahman, 11 Nasum Ahmed.
New Zealand team: 1 Finn Allen, 2 Rachin Ravindra, 3 Will Young, 4 Tom Latham (capt&wk), 5 Colin de Grandhomme, 6 Henry Nicholls, 7 Tom Blundell, 8 Cole McConchie, 9 Scott Kuggeleijn, 10 Jacob Duffy, 11 Ajaz Patel.
Post Match Presentation.
Mahmudullah: The bowlers did a great job restricting them to 130. We started well, but we lost wickets in a cluster, and couldn’t capitalize on it. I think the middle order has been batting well, the top order has been doing a good job, what was missing were the partnerships and hopefully, we can come back hard. Still, two games to go, and hopefully we like to win the next game and the series.
Ajaz Patel, Player of the Match: I think as a spinner you thrive on conditions like this. It was nice to get a few up at the top and our spinners collectively did a good job. I think both Cole and Rachin bowled brilliantly and we identified what ball was the hardest to play on this surface. We know these conditions may not be necessarily easy, but overall it was a good bowling effort. Yeah, Dan gave me clarity about what more these conditions can offer you.
Latham: A really good performance – the way we were able to build partnerships even though we lost quite a few wickets upfronts. We probably got around the par score and to take wickets upfront, it was always going to be difficult at the back end. The death phase can be tricky but Tom and Henry absorbed the pressure and to get us to the par score was ideal. I thought the spinners were fantastic in all three games. The conditions are different from what we have back home, but looking at the Aussie series, there were no surprises for us. I still feel we have a bit left in the tank for a complete performance.
