BCB to consider Shakib’s availability in LPL
Although the imposed ban on Bangladeshi all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is not over, he has been picked in the players draft for upcoming Lanka Premier League (LPL). Although Shakib’s name is in the draft, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has not officially received any proposal from the tournament. Therefore, the BCB authorities will take a final decision on whether Shakib will play in the LPL said BCB CEO.
Shakib was given a one-year ban for concealing a gambler’s offer. Shakib’s ban is set to expire on October 29 next month. Once Shakib’s ban is lifted, he will be allowed to play in any type of tournament. On the other hand, the auction of this year’s edition of Lanka Premier League (LPL) will be held on October 1. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will consider the proposal if any team in the LPL pick Shakib.
BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said, “We have not received any formal proposal yet. If we find any, we will think about it. The BCB will decide on the players to play in foreign leagues. According to the BCB decision, any Bangladeshi player can play in two foreign leagues. The players have already been instructed on the inclusion of foreign domestic leagues. We will decide according to that rule.”
Meanwhile, Bangladesh is scheduled to play a three-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Though Shakib will not play in the first match, the fans are hoping that Shakib will be available in the second and last match. Shakib is continuing his personal practice at BKSP Sports Complex to play in the Sri Lanka series.
