Preview

Brighton and Hove Albion are at risk of getting sucked into a relegation battle after just one win across their previous 11 Premier League (PL) matches (W1, D5, L5). Their attack looks to be struggling given that they have scored over 1.5 goals just once in their last nine PL games whilst also failing to attempt more than four shots on target since their 3-0 away win vs Newcastle United back in September.

Not since June have the ‘Seagulls’ secured a home PL victory, since then they have lost six of their ten PL matches at the Amex Stadium (D4, L6) – they also conceded 2+ goals in all six of those losses. Their home matches this season have tended to be slow to get going, highlighted by the fact that Graham Potter’s side have scored and conceded just once before the 30th minute.

It’s not getting better for Sheffield United who have now won fewer points after 13 games of a league season than any other team in English top-flight history (D1, L12). Their recent matches have at least been competitive with four of their previous five defeats coming by way of just a single-goal margin. They’ve also netted before HT in two of their previous three PL matches.

The ‘Blades’ have gone in at the break trailing in each of their previous four PL matches on the road. However, it’s in the later stages of these fixtures where they seem to become most vulnerable, conceding 61.54% of their away PL goals in the final 30 minutes.

Players to watch:

Brighton midfielder Pascal Groß has scored two goals from his previous three PL starts, and both came via the penalty spot. Also in good form, Sheffield United’s David McGoldrick has now scored three goals across his previous three PL starts – each arrived in the opening or closing ten minutes of the match.

Hot stat:

There have been 11 penalties awarded across Brighton’s fixtures this campaign (for five, against six), the PL’s joint-highest.
