Fresh ball-tampering controversy in PSL
The ongoing fifth season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been put into a fresh controversy as England opener Jason Roy has accused fast bowler Wahab Riaz of ball-tampering and clashed during a PSL match in Karachi on Sunday (February 23).
Quetta Gladiators captain Sarfaraz Ahmed confirmed that they have reported the matter regarding ball tampering against Wahab Riaz’s team Peshawar Zalmi as per the protocol of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
“Yes, we have reported the matter as per the protocol of the PCB,” Sarfraz said at a press conference on Sunday after his side’s five-wicket win over Karachi Kings. Earlier the Gladiators lost to Zalmi by six wickets on Saturday.
“Look these things happen in cricket when there is intense competition between the players,” Sarfaraz further added when asked about the verbal fight during the Saturdat match.
The incident took place during the 17th over of Gladiators innings. According to a source, Roy asked Wahab whether he had made the ball properly to gain reverse swing. To this, the Pakistani pacer reacted angrily and argued before Sarfaraz intervened to diffuse the situation.
While Quetta Gladiators pointed out in their match report that the condition of the ball was changed, they did not specifically name anyone.
“They basically said in the report that the cricket board and match officials should keep a close watch on the condition of the ball,” said the source.
