Gillespie heaps praise on Ishant Sharma for his fifer

Former Australia fast bowler Jason Gillespie has showered praise on Ishant Sharma for chipping in with good bowling performance against New Zealand in the first Test match at Basin Reserve in Wellington. While most of the Indian bowlers found it hard to dismantle the Kiwi batting attack, it was Ishant Sharma who troubled the opposition batsmen.

The lanky pacer Ishant Sharma went about his business and grabbed a sensational five-wicket haul on Day 3. Ishant had recovered from an injury which he had picked up during the Ranji Trophy match and finally broke into the Indian side at the right time just a day before the two-match Test series started.

Impressed by Ishant Sharma’s bowling, Jason Gillespie took to Twitter to laud Ishant. “Very happy to see Ishant do so well- all down to his attitude to want to learn, improve and get better. The current coaching staff of the @BCCI team need to take a lot of credit,” Gillespie tweeted.

The 44-year-old Gillespie went on to laud the Indian coaching staff including support staff for assisting Ishant Sharma in recovering from the injury.

The former Australian pacer also added about how Ishant Sharma cultivated a habit of delivering fuller length balls rather than bowling back of a length that he used to bowl earlier. Now that he has modified his technique, Ishant has been doing ever so well.

“If you look at how Ishant is taking his wickets, he is bowling a fuller length on average. Rather than bowling back of a length, he is bowling about knee roll/top of pad length,” Gillespie added.
