Golden words from Rahane to Ashwin saw the latter scoring a special knock

India’s veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin played an integral role in the first and second Test match against England. In the first Test, he took 3 wickets in the first innings and a six-wicket haul in the second innings. Overall, he took 9 wickets in the Test opener.

Ravi Ashwin showcased his all-round brilliance in the second Test match. The off-spinner claimed a brilliant fifer in the first innings and scored a fantabulous century in the second innings. Ashwin is also the first Indian cricketer to score a century and take a five-wicket haul on three different matches.

The Chennai-born all-rounder was named the man of the match for his all-round masterclass. Ashwin is only 6 wickets away from taking 400 wickets in Tests. He is certain to accomplish the feat in the ongoing Test series.

If he manages to take 6 more wickets, he will be the second fastest bowler to achieve the feat. Muttiah Muralitharan is the fastest bowler to take 400 Test wickets. Ravi Ashwin, at the post-match presentation, revealed how Rahane’s golden words played an important role in his batting.

“It is very important to put the pressure on the bowlers becuase if you allow them to dictate terms, it is going to get easier. I just wanted to take it upon myself, and after I connected the first ball, I knew I got a hang of this wicket.

I am someone who tries hard, and when things don’t go my way, I try harder. Vikram Rathore has been very supportive. My batting was more about hands, to think tactically instead of technically. Ajinkya played a crucial role in telling me that I was overthinking it,” Rahane said at the post-match presentation.

Last but not least, Ashwin said he felt really happy to have played the Test in his hometown, Chennai. He has by far played 4 Tests here. The all-rounder revealed that with crowd’s support, Team India levelled the series.

“I have been playing it for the last 25 years. I really had to express myself. As an eight-year-old, I have come here on these very stands to watch cricket. I have played four Test matches here and easily this is the most special.

I get a hero’s feeling here playing cricket here. In Covid times this knowledgeable crowd came out in big numbers. They were 1-0 without the crowd, and we made it 1-1 with them. Hopefully, we can take it forward,” Ashwin signed off.
