India on top after spinners rattle English batsmen

India on top after day two’s play of the second Test as Indian spinners rattled the English batting line-up and bowled them out for 134.

England’s tour of India is slowly going into the middle passage. England are off to a good start in their tour with a win in the first Test at Chennai. Now the second Test has started at the same venue, just three days after the first Test.

The second Test between India and England at Chennai is on the side of the hosts at the moment. After electing to bat first on day one, India were 300/6 at stumps on day one. Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel started day two for India and the morning session was not good enough with the bat for the hosts.

India were bowled out for 329 for their first innings. In reply, the visitors had a terrible first innings. Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant played a quickfire inning of 58 and remained unbeaten till the end. For the visitors, Moeen Ali scalped 4 wickets to his name.

Indian spinners were outstanding in the innings and bowled out England for only 134. In the morning session itself, England lost four wickets before lunch. Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel were crushing through the English batting line-up. Ben Foakes managed to put a fight and remained unbeaten on 42. Ravichandran Ashwin bagged the 29th five-wicket haul in the longest format of the game.

India took 195 runs lead from the first innings. Shubman Gill had another bad inning in the Test and was dismissed for 14. Rohit Sharma showed the same intent as the first innings and remained not out on 25 at the close of play along with Cheteshwar Pujara. At stumps, India were 54/1 and India are leading by 249 runs.
