India shows interest to host 100-ball tournament
The Hundred ball tournament invented by England and Wales Cricket Board could not play the much awaited tournament in England this year due to the ongoing pandemic. However, India is already planning to host a 100-ball tournament in the style of The Hundred.
When the Test and ODI market was booming, no one expected that a new format like T20 would gain more popularity than the other two formats. England was the inventor of the T20 format, and India made it popular; With the Indian Premier League (IPL). This time India’s attention is also on 100 ball cricket, the new invention of England.
The first edition of 100-ball cricket was to be rolled out this year. However, epidemic Corona has postponed the event for a year. That is the claim of Colin Graves, the outgoing chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Recently, he said, some countries have asked the ECB about the 100-ball tournament. However, the most interested board in India is the BCCI. Colin Graves claims that the BCCI has been in talks with the ECB about the 100-ball tournament since 2019.
“I know that some of the countries abroad, India in particular, are looking at their own,” Graves told Sky Sports.
“They have been talking to me about it for the last year on a regular basis. So around the world it has created a lot of excitement.”
The BCCI, however, has not yet made an official statement on the matter. However, the world’s most influential board, which has created a storm of entertainment with the IPL, can’t wait to say that it will also get popularity if it organizes 100-ball cricket!
