The whole world has stopped due to coronavirus. Sports are now stagnant. Players are relaxed as international and domestic sporting events take off. Most are in the home quarantine.

But England captain Joe Root is not sitting in anything. He continues to train and maintain fitness. Heather Knight, captain of the England women’s cricket team, is doing the same.

England returned home early in the middle of the practice match from the Sri Lanka tour a few days ago. But even if he is not in the game, it is important to keep the fitness.

“It’s been great to get some leisure time back from Sri Lanka,” Root said.

“It will be very important for me to keep my fitness at this time. So that when I get on the field, I can be in the best rhythm. I am a very active man. My baby boy always kept me busy. But in the meantime, I can improve in certain places by working on a proper plan.”

Meanwhile, England have a series against India in front. Team captain Heather Knight also wants to keep herself as prepared as possible.

“It’s definitely not the ideal time,” Knight said. “But it is a good way to try to keep yourself fit and to maintain fitness. It’s a new challenge. We are trying to keep ourselves fit so that we can be ready when we get back in the game.”

England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Strength and Conditioning Coach David Osguthorpe said they had provided the equipment needed for home training to the men and women players of the central contract.
