Karan Johar in talks with Sourav Ganguly for possible biopic
The president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sourav Ganguly is in talks with Bollywood’s famous filmmaker Karan Johar to make a film on his life and times. Indian tabloid newspaper Mumbai Mirror reported this news on Monday (February 24).
As per the report, both Ganguly and Johar have had a couple of meetings of late, even as recently as Friday. They are in the hunt for the lead actor at the moment.
That many a prolific filmmakers want to make a biopic on the former India captain is common knowledge. Even when asked who should play him on the big screen, Ganguly had equipped Hrithik Roshan’s name.
Earlier reports were doing the rounds that Ekta Kapoor was eyeing to make a biopic on Ganguly. When Ganguly was asked about it, he had said:
“Is it, Ekta Kapoor? Then yes, she approached me and we talked about it once. Nothing went further than that. I have never thought of a biopic [on me] though there are a host of sports biopics being made. If there is time, then someone will make one on me. Hope people would be interested in seeing the film.”
Dada, as Ganguly is often called fondly, himself is a fan of Bollywood movies, and he liked several biopics made on cricketers earlier in Bollywood.
“I liked the MS Dhoni biopic, [M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story]. Tendulkar’s biopic [Sachin A Billion Dreams] was a little different. Now we have a film on the 1983 World Cup-winning team. That will be huge and I will definitely watch it. As far as my biopic is concerned, we will wait and see.”
