Kiwis showed a lot of discipline in Wellington Test against India: Laxman
Team India have found themselves in a difficult situation in New Zealand as they lost the opening Test match at Basin Reserve in Wellington. The hosts took the first lead in the two-match Test series and are just a win away from whitewashing the visitors. Even a draw would help the hosts win the series.
New Zealand got the better of India by ten wickets in the first Test. The visitors were dominated by the hosts in all aspects of the game and it was indeed a deserving win. Meanwhile, former cricketer, VVS Laxman added that Kiwi side displayed a great deal of discipline and patience throughout the match.
“Emphatic win for the @BLACKCAPS. They showed a lot of discipline and patience in executing their plans and outplayed India in all departments. India will be disappointed with their performance and I am sure they will introspect and bounce back strongly in Christchurch. #INDvNZ,” Laxman tweeted.
What really stood out was that this was New Zealand’s 100th Test match victory. On the other end of the spectrum, India faced its first loss in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC).
After the win, New Zealand has now moved to the fifth spot in the current World Test Championship standings. However, India are still comfortably sitting on top of with as many as 360 points.
India set an easy target of just nine runs and in reply, New Zealand achieved the score in just 1.4 overs. Tom Latham and Tom Blundell remained not out on 7 and 2 as the hosts beat India by ten wickets.
The second and final Test match is scheduled to take place at Christchurch from February 29, Saturday.
