Devdutt Padikkal has been making waves in the domestic circuit. The Karnataka batsman hogged the limelight in the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament when he smashed four consecutive centuries to his name.
His consistent performances in the domestic circuit caught the attention of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s team management and hence they roped in the proven local talent for INR 20 lakh at the player auction prior to IPL 2019.
The 20-year-old batsman proved his worth by scoring runs on a consistent basis in the previous season. He ended up as the top run-scorer for RCB with 473 runs in 15 games. The youngster smashed 5 fifties to his name at a strike rate of 124.80 and an average of 31.53.
The teenager could miss the initial games of the IPL as he was tested positive for the novel coronavirus pandemic. As per the sources, the young cricketer has been isolated from the RCB camp and is currently undergoing mandatory protocols.
Padikkal names his cricketing idol
Meanwhile, the Karnataka cricketer was asked to pick his cricketing idol in interaction with TOI, the youngster said he seeks inspiration from every cricketer. He also picked former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir as his role model
“For me, there is not one individual who has inspired me. Every person has a separate story and everyone really has gone through with some things to get there in their career.
I take inspiration from every cricketer who has played for India because getting there is not easy at all. It takes a lot to get there. They have done a lot to reach that level and contributed to the country,” Padikkal was quoted saying by Times Of India (TOI).
Talking further, Padikkal talked about how he watches the videos of Gambhir, who was also a left-handed opener. “But my role model is Gautam Gambhir in cricket. I have grown up watching him bat. I still watch his videos. I still love his batting. Gambhir is my cricketing role model,” Padikkal added.
RCB will start their IPL campaign against Mumbai Indians on April 9 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
