Hello and welcome to Galle International Stadium, Galle, for the 1st Test Day 2 between England and Sri Lanka.
England took a significant lead in the first innings after Master Dom Bess had a career-best 5-30 against Sri Lanka 135 on the first day of Thursday’s first test.
Captains Joe Ruth and Johnny Bairstow continued to thwart Sri Lanka’s ambitions with a steady and unbroken 110 lane position to end the day 127-2, only eight lanes behind.
Ruth reached his half-century with 94 balls and was unbeaten at 66 with five fours, while Bairstow was not 47.
Previously, captain Dinesh Chandimal, who won the litter and entered the fight, scored the highest score at 28 after regular captain Dimut Karunaratne was sacked with a broken thumb in Sri Lanka’s first home Test since the pandemic began.
Stuart Broad picked up two early goals in one for a 3-20 total, while Bess found unexpected help from the pitch at Gall International Stadium to sack the hosts before tea.
