Hello and welcome to Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, for the 1st Test Day 2 between Pakistan and New Zealand.

Captain Kane Williamson scored 94 unbeaten and senior agitator Ross Taylor scored 70 to help New Zealand survive Pakistan’s bowling attack on the opening day of the Boxing Day Test here on Saturday.

New Zealand finished the day 222/3 solid, with both Williamson regretting and Henry Nichols good 42. While the hosts looked gloomy with 13/2, the Kiwi captain got up and scored. It was a one-man show for Pakistan when Shahin Shah Afridi selected all three porters – first posting the Kiwi opener and then bringing Taylor back.

First, New Zealand had their worst start when Shahin knocked out Tom Latham early in the test.

Pacer, deeply convinced of his recent trip to international cricket, returned all firearms and later fired Tom Blundell. The ball is kicked by the goalkeeper to get his team into trouble in the first session.

However, Williamson and Taylor consistently made their way through the first day of the day and appeared to have recovered from the early blows. The second session was wholly owned by the Kiwis as Pakistan ran out of goal to see the duo increase their tenth stand to over a hundred in the longest form in the game. The duo installed a 120-horse third-door lane for Pakistani bowling.

New Zealand lost to Taylor at the start of the third session, but Williamson and Nichols made sure the Kiwi stopped suffering hiccups as they sewed continuous stands from 89 starts.
