Preview

A 1-1 draw against Sassuolo last time out means Fiorentina are now winless in seven Serie A (SA) matches, as they sit just one place above the relegation zone. Worryingly, they scored only two goals throughout that run, which has contributed to Fiorentina’s joint-worst 12-game start to a SA season since 1937/38.

If there’s any comfort it comes at home, where Fiorentina have picked up both of their SA wins so far (W2, D2, L2). The hosts have found the net here in two consecutive matches – their only goals across the last seven league fixtures at all venues – but their average of 1.17 goals scored per fixture across their opening six SA home games is their worst since 2016/17.

Hellas Verona witnessed their unbeaten run end at three matches as they lost 2-1 against Sampdoria in midweek. Encouragingly though, Verona have scored at least once beyond the hour mark in three of their previous four SA outings, and are unbeaten in the last three league H2Hs (W2, D1).

The visitors are also unbeaten on the road in four league outings (W2, L2), netting exactly two goals in the last three. Now hunting a fifth straight top-flight unbeaten away game since Jan-Feb 2020, Verona will also look to make history by scoring 2+ goals in four consecutive SA away matches for the first time ever. However, 11 of Verona’s 17 away league games played this calendar year have featured under 2.5 match goals.

Players to watch:

Dušan Vlahović (FIO) has netted both of his SA goals this term at home, including a first-half penalty last time out. Meanwhile, Miguel Veloso scored Verona’s opener at Atalanta (Nov 28) – three of his previous four SA goals for Verona have now arrived as their first goalscorer.

Hot stat:

Verona have won two consecutive SA away matches for the first time since April 2014, although the third match back then ended 3-3.
