Mahmudullah offers no excuses for Khulna’s failure

Although Gemcon Khulna won their first match dramatically, after that they had lost two matches consecutively.

After losing to Minister Group Rajshahi by 6 wickets, they lost again against Gazi Group Chattogram by 9 wickets on Saturday (November 28). However, Mahmudullah Riyad, the captain of the team, refused to make any excuse for the failure.

In the first match, Khulna was almost losing to Fortune Barisal. Ariful Haque’s outstanding batting in the last over gave the team an incredible victory. There was no batsman in form after that match. Mahmudullah thought that although the performance of bowlers, especially spinners, had been satisfactory, the batting unit had been disappointing.

“I think our lower batting order was the only positive thing we could have taken. But today we failed again as a whole batting unit. But positive things are probably the off-spinners bowling well. Shakib [Shakib Al Hasan] bowled really well upfront and in the back. But it’s not enough to win the game,” Mahmudullah said.

The right-handed batsman blamed their failure in executing the planes for the woeful condition of the team. “We are not executing our plans as we have discussed in the dressing room. We did not hold onto our plan. The end result was not in favor of us. But I think as a group we are still very much positive to come back strong and put up a very good show in the next game,” he said.

The 34-year old Mahmudullah wanted to learn from mistakes and to show better performances in the next match. “Forgetting about it is not the solution. You need to remember what mistakes you have done and try to reflect on them and try not to repeat the same. There was a little bit in for the bowlers. But that’s not an excuse. We did not apply ourselves well enough,” the Khulna captain concluded.
