Mashrafe backs Mushfiqur’s reluctance to tour Pakistan
Bangladesh ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has thrown full support behind Mushfiqur Rahim’s decision of not touring Pakistan amid security concerns.
Mushfiqur made it clear a couple of days ago that he will not change his stance regarding travelling to Pakistan, despite Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Nazmul Hasan Papon’s statement in a recent press conference that he is “contract-bound to travel to Pakistan”.
Earlier Mushfiqur had refused to go to Pakistan in the first two legs of the three-phase tour, saying he had objections from his family to travel to the country which is often at the receiving end of terrorist attacks.
When asked about the appropriation of Mushfiqur’s decision ahead of the three-match ODI series against Zimbabwe starting Sunday in Sylhet, Mashrafe said “this is a decision varies from man to man”.
“I hundred percent respect Mushfiqur’s decision. He got the option from the board – someone can skip the tour if he does not wish to go. When the team management or the selectors sit with the players, they need to ask every single player if he is willing to go. If I am considered in the team, I will also let them know if I will go or not,” said Mashrafe.
Mashrafe discussed further about his own plan to tour Pakistan for the solitary one-dayer, as he said: “I don’t know what comes next [after the Zimbabwe series]. I will be there whenever the team needs me. I always feel this – the board is our guardian. It will take a decision on us, thinking not once, twice, or thrice, but ten times. It is our duty to consider the board’s decision final.”
