MCC’s Spirit of Cricket awarded to West Indies for travelling to England

West Indies Cricket Board was awarded with the Spirit of Cricket Award by Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) for travelling to England earlier this year.

The spread of coronavirus across the globe shattered the whole world for a while and still it is continuing in various part of the globe. Due to the pandemic situation the game of cricket was also halted for nearly four months.

The international cricket was resumed with the Test series between England and West Indies, which was played in England during July. The series started with the new normals in the game including some new rules like COVID-19 substitutes. Both teams players underwent through the tough bio bubbles for the first time

The success of the tour laid ways for the resumption of cricket all around the world and now it is slowly going back to normal, even with live audience. For sending both men’s and women’s team to England during the tough time, Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) rewarded West Indies Cricket with the Spirit of the Game Award.

In a year when cricket has brought us much solace, it is entirely fitting that Cricket West Indies and their men’s and women’s teams should be recognised for the courage of their decision to tour England, an act which truly embodies the spirit of cricket,” MCC President Kumar Sangakkara acknowledged the team players as well as the board.

Following the England tour, Cricket West Indies successfully hosted this year’s Caribbean Premiere League too with bio security protocols. The men’s team is current in New Zealand, playing the first Test of the Test series between both nations.
