Moeen Ali tested positive for COVID-19 in Sri Lanka

England spin all-rounder Moeen Ali tested positive with coronavirus in Sri Lanka according to the test reports which were taken during England’s arrival in Sri Lanka.

England have arrived in Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series which is a part of both teams’ ICC Test Championship. The series was originally scheduled to play in the middle of last year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation it has been pushed to January 2021.

On Sunday, England players arrived in Sri Lanka for the Test series and the regular PCR tests were carried out on visitors. The test results revealed that England’s spin all-rounder Moeen Ali has been contracted with the virus.

After the confirmation of virus contamination, Moeen Ali will be placed under 10 days self isolation according to the COVID-19 safety protocols in Sri Lanka. The another all-rounder Chris Woakes has been identified as the possible close contact with the spinner. As a result, Woakes will be placed in isolation and he will observed with further tests.

With this unfortunate incidents, there will be another set of PCR test to be taken on England players on Tuesday. As per the original plan England players are scheduled to start their training sessions on Wednesday. The first Test will start on January 14th.
