Mominul doubtful for WI series

Bangladesh Test captain Mominul Haque’s participation in West Indies series is in doubt following a surgery on his right thumb.

Mominul injured his thumb while fielding for Gazi Group Chattogram in Bangabandhu T20 Cup 2020. He went to Dubai for a surgery and returned home on Sunday.

The 29-year-old will have to stay in rehab for around a month which keeps his availability in West Indies under clouds.

“Mominul has returned home. He brought a guideline which the doctor there (in UAE) gave. We will be following that,” BCB physio Debashish Chowdhury told BDCricTime.

“We cannot say when Mominul is going to be fit. We will go ahead week by week. Let’s see what happens next.”

“It’s uncertain if he is going to take part in West Indies series. For now, he has to stay in 4-5 weeks of rehab. Then we will decide on his eligibility to play the Tests.”

West Indies are due to arrive in early January to play three Tests, three ODIs and two T20Is although the talks are going on between Bangladesh Cricket Board and Cricket West Indies to shorten the tour.

Mominul is not the only one to carry an injury ahead of the home series. Seamer Abu Jayed Chowdhury Rahi and spinner Nayeem Hasan have been ruled out of the ongoing T20 Cup. Nayeem, who fractured his finger, may require a surgery.
