Lewis’ duration of contract is yet to be known. It will be finalised once he meets the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board).

Lewis was a long-serving coach for Durham, the club which he played for during his playing career. In 2013, he won Durham the County Championship title after being appointed as deputy head coach following regular coach Geoff Cook’s heart-attack. Lewis later continued as full-time coach for Durham’s senior team.

The 50-year-old was batting consultant for Sri Lanka during the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. He was appointed in the role in December 2018.

In 205 first-class matches, Lewis scored 10281 runs at an average of 31.92 with the highest score being 210 not out. He scored 4747 runs in 236 List A games at 27.43 having just one century.

Lewis’ inclusion to Bangladesh team will fill in the vacant space which was created when Neil McKenzie left last year. Craig McMillan was later inducted for October-November’s Sri Lanka tour, which eventually got postponed. However, McMillan had already pulled out due to personal reasons.

Bangladesh will play three ODIs and two Tests against West Indies in January-February.
