New Zealand register big win in Hamilton Test

New Zealand have showed their strength at their home ground again as they beat West Indies by a huge margin of an innings and 134 runs in the first Test of two-match Test series in Hamilton on Sunday (December 6).

Batting first, the Kiwis declared the first innings with a huge total of 519 runs losing just 7 wickets. The visitors could not make that run even after combining two innings.

In the first innings, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson converted his 22nd century into a third double century of his career. The right-handed batsman played a superb innings of 251 runs with 34 fours and 2 sixes which was also his highest individual innings in Test cricket. Except from him, Tom Latham scored 86 runs and Kyle Jamieson was unbeaten on 51 runs.

Kemar Roach and Shanon Gabriel both took 3 wickets each for the Caribbean.

West Indies were shattered by the pace bowlers of New Zealand in the first innings. They were able to score just 138 runs. Only five batsmen touched the double-digit score with highest run came from John Campbell’s bat which was just 26.

Tim Southee took 4 wickets while Kyle Jamieson and Neil Wagner took 2 wickets each for New Zealand.

New Zealand put West Indies in the follow-on. But the batting measures continued for West Indies. They failed again and there’s a chance for New Zealand to finish the Test within three days. But Jermaine Blackwood and Alzarri Joseph made a 155-run partnership in the seventh wicket and just narrowed the margin of defeat.

On the morning of the fourth day, however, the visitors were bundled out for 247 runs. Blackwood played an innings of 104 off 141 balls. Joseph scored 86 runs off 125 balls.

Wagner took 4 wickets, Jamieson took 2 wickets and Southee, Trent Boult, Daryl Mitchell took 1 wicket each.

Williamson was adjusted man of the match for his superb innings of 251-run.
