Oldest Bangladeshi to make a T20 ton

Brothers Union captain Mizanur Rahman has struck his maiden T20 hundred in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at BKSP-4.

The match ended in a no result due to rain. Being sent to bat first, Brothers Union made 133 runs for the loss of two wickets in 17 overs. Of them, exactly 100 came from the bat of Mizanur, the opener.

Mizanur played 65 balls to bring up his hundred, hitting 13 fours and 3 sixes. He became only the ninth Bangladeshi batter to score hundred in recognised T20 cricket. Not only that, he is the oldest to do so (29 years and 322 days).

Shahriar Nafees, Mohammad Ashraful, Anamul Haque Bijoy, Tamim Iqbal (3), Sabbir Rahman, Najmul Hossain Shanto (2) and Parvez Hossain Emon made three-figure scores in the format before Mizanur. Ashraful had the record of being the oldest (28 years and 319 days) to so among them.

Parvez is the youngest (18 years and 189 days). He did it in the 2020 Bangabandhu T20 Cup, the same match in which Shanto struck his second T20 ton.

Mizanur has had a good season with the bat for Brothers Union despite his team not making it to the Super League stage – four wins, four losses and three washouts. The right-hander is the leading run-scorer so far, making 418 runs at an average of 52.25 and a strike rate of 133.97 in 10 innings. He has also made scores of 74 and 79* in the tournament.

23-year-old Munim Shahriar’s unbeaten 92 for Abahani Limited against Prime Bank Cricket Club was the previous best individual score in this DPL.
