Pallekele confirmed venue for Sri Lanka-Bangladesh Tests

Pallekele International Stadium in Kandy will host the two World Test Championship matches between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has released the official itinerary of the tour. The series begins on April 21 with the first Test. The second Test will be played from April 29.

Earlier, it was revealed to BDCricTime that Galle was the frontrunner to be host for this series.

Bangladesh will leave for Sri Lanka on April 12, and will be back home on May 4. The visting side will play an intra-squad match on April 17 and 18.

Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka 2021 itinerary:

April 12: Bangladesh will leave for Sri Lanka
April 17-18: Intra-squad warm-up, Katunayake
April 21-25: 1st Test, Pallekele International Stadium, Kandy
April 29-May 3: 2nd Test, Pallekele International Stadium, Kandy
May 4: Bangladesh will return home

The series was postponed from September-October after SLC and BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) failed to reach on an agreement for quarantine measures in the former’s country.

Originally, mid-2020 was the date for the three-match Test series.

The number of matches was cut down to two after both boards managed to find a slot in April. The affair will conclude the league stage of the inaugural World Test Championship.

Sri Lanka have hosted England for two Tests in January, their first home international series since the pandemic.
