Ponting rates Rohit Sharma better than Mayank and Shaw

Rohit Sharma had a fantastic journey at Mumbai Indians in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. The MI captain helped his team to win the 5th IPL title, which is the most by any team in IPL history.

After winning the title, he took the flight to Bengaluru and arrived at the National Cricket Academy. It was when the BCCI didn’t pick the stalwart in the limited-overs series against Australia. The star opener was body-shamed for gaining weight in the lockdown.

He worked very hard on his fitness levels and eventually attained desirable levels of fitness. He was declared fit by the physios. The selectors named him for the last 2 Tests against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy series.

He jetted off to Australia and completed the mandatory 14-day quarantine procedures. After that, he arrived at the Indian camp in Melbourne where he was given a warm reception from his teammates.

Ponting rates Rohit better than two openers

Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting reserved the highest respect for India’s top-rated batsman Rohit Sharma. According to two-time World Cup-winning champion, Rohit is way better than Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw.

The 19-year-old Shaw was far from being impressive in the first Test match. He got out on 0 and 4 respectively. On the other hand, Mayank failed to meet the expectations in both Tests where he departed for cheap scores.

Rohit’s return is a massive boost to Team India in the next two Tests. They lacked the teeth to score runs and the stalwart will be looking forward to a new challenge in the upcoming Tests. The third Test will be played at the SCG on January 7.

After the second Test match, India’s stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane said he was pretty excited to see Rohit coming back in the side. The 33-year-old has been named the vice-captain for the last two Tests against Australia.

Rahane, who was named the man of the match in MCG Test spoke about Rohit Sharma. “We are excited about Rohit coming back. Spoke to him yesterday, he’s waiting to join the team,” Rahane added.
