Rohit Sharma didn’t travel to Australia from UAE because his father had COVID-19

The opener of the Indian team, Rohit Sharma has not travelled to Australia directly from the UAE with the Indian squad. Instead, he decided to return to India with the Mumbai Indians camp after winning the trophy.

During the game against Kings XI Punjab, he injured his hamstring and did not play the next couple of games for his franchise. As a result, he was dropped from all formats of the squad for the tour of Australia.

But, he made a comeback during their last league game of IPL 2020. After he returned to the action, he was added to the Tests squad. He travelled to the National Cricket Academy last week to complete his rehab.

But, according to the reports, the Indian opener has not recovered fully from the injury and was ruled out of the first two Tests against Australia. The reports suggest that the right-hander is unlikely to recover any time soon.

They also stated that Rohit should have travelled with the Indian team instead of returning to his home. In such a scenario, he would have been available for the selection from the first Test itself.

However, according to the cricket journalist Boria Majumdar, the skipper of Mumbai Indians returned to the country because his father was suffering from COVID-19.

“The reason Rohit didn’t travel with the team [to Australia], came back to Mumbai with Mumbai Indians is because his father had COVID. That is the reality,” Boria said.

“After that, if he didn’t want to play red-ball series, there was no reason for him to travel to the NCA. He could have easily stayed back with Ritika (wife) and family. So there is absolutely no reason to say that Rohit didn’t want to play the red-ball series,” he added.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has requested the Cricket Australia to reduce the quarantine days for Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma. Both the Indian opener and the Indian pacer will miss the first two Tests against Australia.
