Rohit to open for MI despite Lynn’s inclusion
Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed that Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock will open the innings in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
After the inclusion of Chris Lynn into the squad, there were questions raising who would open the innings for Mumbai Indians this season with skipper Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock also in the side.
However, Jayawardene didn’t keep the suspense for too long as he informed on Thursday that Rohit and De Kock will open the innings just like last season. Jayawardene believes the pair did well last season and they have to ability to continue doing it.
“Lynn is a great addition to the squad, but the combination of Rohit and Quinton did a phenomenal job for us last season. They complement each other well, they’re consistent and both of them are experienced. They’re good leaders as well, so why would you want to fix something that isn’t broken? We will continue to go with that,” he said.
Lynn’s inclusion has boosted the team and they are well on their way to defend the title. They will be playing their opening game against the arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However, they will be missing their key player Lasith Malinga, who pulled off from the tournament citing personal reasons.
