Samson gives a clarity on Jadeja controversy

Team India surrendered at the hands of Australia in the ODI series. India failed to take a lead in the ODI opener and as a result, they lost a bit of momentum in the second match as well. When they were about to get humiliated by the hosts, they played for pride in the dead rubber and saved themselves from ignominy.

After losing the ODI series, the visitors ensured to start the T20I series on a positive note. Virat Kohli’s team won the game by 11 runs to take the first lead in the three-match ODI series. Yuzvendra Chahal was named the man of the match for his impressive bowling figures at Manuka Oval in Canberra. Interestingly, the spinner was not even named in the playing XI.

The match drew a fresh controversy when India named leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal as a concussion substitute for Ravindra Jadeja. Chahal changed the course of the game as he picked up three important wickets. The wrist-spinner removed the likes of Aaron Finch, Steve Smith and Matthew Wade. Earlier, Australia coach Justin Langer lost his cool after India made a concussion substitute.

Langer was caught fuming when Chahal took the field as a concussion substitute for Jadeja. The coach was involved in a heated altercation with the match referee and was not pleased with the rules.

Jadeja was feeling a bit dizzy: Samson

India posted 161 in 20 overs as Jadeja steered the team with the help of his 23-ball-43. He scored this knock despite facing hamstring and being hit on the helmet in the last over of the game. As Jadeja couldn’t continue to take further part in the game, he declared himself retired-hurt. As per new ICC rules, India named Chahal as a replacement who was clearly eligible to bowl four overs in the game.

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson who looked promising for his 23 off 15 with 1 four and a six gave a clarification on Jadeja’s controversy. “He (Ravindra Jadeja) got hit on the helmet in the last over (off Mitchell Starc) and when he came back to the dressing room, he was asked by the physio (Nitin Patel) how he felt. He (Jadeja) said that he was feeling a little dizzy. He is under observation as per the team doctor’s (Dr. Abhijit Salvi) advice,” Sanju Samson said in the post-match press conference.

Sanju Samson also heaped praise on Chahal for his bowling spell. The wrist-spinner did full justice by delivering the much-needed amends. “That is the standard that has been set by this team. The quality of players is so high that anytime you ask, they are ready. Chahal grabbed his chance and it was a great lesson for everyone that they need to be ready all the time,” Sanju Samson added.
