Sean Abbott ruled out of 1st Test; replacement announced

Ahead of the Day-Night Adelaide Test against India, the Australian team will miss the services of Sean Abbott who has been ruled out of the first Test due to a mid-calf-strain.

The right-arm pacer was also a part of the limited-overs squad for the ODI and T20I series against India. However, he could pick just 2 wickets in four games in which he played.

Abbott also featured in the playing XI when the Australia A were up against India in the practice game at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Though he picked up the wickets of Mayank Agarwal, Wriddhiman Saha and Mohammed Shami, it will not be a big blow for the Australian team.

The 28-year-old is yet to make his Test debut and he could play just two ODIs and 7 T20Is since 2014. The Australian team will come up with the full strength by including Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.

Mitchell Starc, who did not play the T20I series against India, joined the squad on Monday. They also have Nathan Lyon who has brilliant numbers in the longest format of the game.

The Australian team management replaced the right-arm pacer with Moises Henriques. The 33-year-old was also a part of ODI and T20I squad against India. He would be looking to improve his Test match numbers if he gets a chance to play against India.
