Shakib calls for change of attitude towards ‘weak’ West Indies side

The West Indies squad currently in Bangladesh for the series against the Tigers is being called a ‘second-string’ or ‘weak one’, as it does not include most of the regular and experienced cricketers. But Bangladesh superstar Shakib Al Hasan does not think so.

According to Shakib, who came back to international cricket after serving a one-year ban and made and instant impact on Wednesday (January 20), West Indies have sent the deplteted squad for experimentation purpose.

“They are playing ODI cricket, just like we are. 7 or 8 players of this West Indies team have previously played for their main (national) team in the past. So what’s all about this main team?” asked Shakib.

“We have beaten their main team in the World Cup, here (in Bangladesh), and even at their own backyard. They are not doing well (against Bangladesh), maybe that’s why they have sent this team so that they can get better results,” added Shakib, who returned figures of 4 for 8 in the first ODI in Mirpur.

Shakib also urged everyone to change the popular opinion that the West Indies cricket board is taking Bangladesh likely.

“I think you attitude (that they are taking us lightly) is completely wrong. We always respect West Indies team; this current team as well. They have the ability to well.

“Today’s wicket was very tough for both teams. Maybe we played a bit better because of our past experience. But that doesn’t ensure that we will win the next two matches comfortably. We must work hard.”
