Shakib loses father-in-law, uncle

Shakib Al Hasan has lost two family members – uncle Kazi Omar Ali and father-in-law Momtaz Uddin Sardar in space of two days.

On Sunday (December 13), Omar Ali departed due to stroke, Shakib’s cousin Sohan confirmed.

Shakib, who was playing in the Bangabandhu T20 Cup 2020 for Gemcon Khulna, left the team ahead of the final to reach out to Minnesota, where his wife Umme Ahmed Shishir and two daughters live. Shishir’s father Momtaz’s physical condition worsened which is why Shakib took an Emirates flight at 1:00 am in the morning on Wednesday (December 16).

With Shakib still en route to USA, Momtaz breathed his last. Momtaz hailed from Narsingdi district. A decision on burial will be taken once Shakib lands in the United States.

Shakib played nine matches for Khulna, scoring a mere 112 runs with the bat and alongn with 6 wickets. The 33-year-old is expected to join Bangladesh camp to face West Indies from January 20.
