Siraj celebrates Ashwin’s century; video goes viral

Mohammed Siraj might have taken just 1 wicket in the second Test match against England in Chennai but he supported Ravichandran Ashwin very well after the hosts lost 9 wickets in the second innings. England bowlers needed just 1 wicket to bowl out India.

However, Siraj showed great calmness and composure when he was batting alongside Ravi Ashwin. Earlier, in the first innings, Siraj threw away his wicket cheaply when Rishabh Pant was batting on 58* (7 fours and 3 sixes) at the non-striker’s end.

After Siraj’s dismissal, which was the last wicket, Pant was absolutely livid with the way Siraj played the shot and got out. But Siraj ensured to play safely so that Ashwin could get to his fifth Test century. Earlier, Ravi Ashwin and captain Virat Kohli added a 96-run partnership which put the team in supreme position.

In the first innings of England’s batting, Ravi Ashwin was the pick of the Indian bowlers as he took a fifer to his name, which is his 29th five-wicket haul in Test cricket.

“I will sleep well through the night, that is all that I am thinking. Even after the last Test, we spoke about how we are going to counter Leach and probably bring sweep to the game. Last time I was sweeping, I was 19 years old, I hit a bit of sweep shots well today. I am thankful the plan has paid off.

Sort of had a very good day. I can’t say it’s been happening in the last three days. I don’t know when the next Test is going to be here, but I am pleased,” Ashwin said at the end of Day 3.

When asked what he told Siraj in the last-wicket partnership, Ashwin told: “In the past, he’s (Ishant) been with me when I got hundreds at home and once Siraj came, I knew how to approach. I was thrilled for his batting and told him to go through the line of the ball.

It was amazing to see how excited he was when I got my hundred. I don’t know what the team is feeling like but I am sure they are thrilled. I can’t thank the crowd enough, they have been very supportive.”
