Australian skipper Tim Paine won the toss and elected to bat first on the typical SCG surface. Australia took the entire control of day one as they were 166/2 by the end of day’s play. Indian bowlers have a lot of work to do on the second day.

Meanwhile, Indian right-arm fast bowler Mohammed Siraj was seen with tears in his eyes when the teams lined up for the national anthems. At the end of the Indian national anthem, the fast bowler was seen as fully emotional, wiping tears off his eyes.

After the end of the day’s play, the fast bowler revealed why he got much emotional at that particular moment. Siraj told that he was reminded of his late father when he was lined up with other teammates before the start of play. “It reminded me of my father, so that’s why I got emotional. My father always wanted to see me play Test cricket. If he was there, he would have been able to see me play,” Siraj said.

The fast bowler lost his father when the team was about to start the preparations for the Test series. Siraj stayed with the team in Australia and decided to fulfill his national duty. The sacrifice paid off to the pacer as he scalped five wickets in his debut Test at MCG. In the ongoing Test too, he provided the early breakthrough for the visitors with the wicket of David Warner.
