Uthappa Reveals How Dhoni’s Trick Helped India Win World T20 Bowl-out Against Pakistan

[add42]

MS Dhoni is one of the greatest captains of all time. He is the only captain in history to have won all the major ICC trophies such as the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 World Cup, 2013 Champions Trophy as well as a number of Asia Cup titles.

The 38-year-old came to be known as a thinking captain when he led his young side to ICC World T20 triumph in 2007 in South Africa. The Men in Blue defeated Pakistan in the final of the inaugural tournament to be crowned as champions.

In the group stages, there was a bowl-out to decide the winner when the game between Pakistan and India was tied. Recalling the match, Indian cricketer, Robin Uthappa heaped praise on his captain, saying that if it wasn’t for Dhoni, winning on bowl-out wouldn’t have been that easy.

One of the things that MS did really well, and that he did differently from what Pakistan keeper did was, where he stood behind the stumps. Pakistan’s keeper (Kamran Akmal) was standing where a wicket-keeper usually stands. A few feet back and besides the stump — just alongside the stump.

“But MS was (sitting) right behind the stumps and that made it so much easier for us. We just had to bowl at MS and it gave us the best chance to hit the wickets. That’s all we did”, he further said in a podcast with New Zealand cricketer, Ish Sodhi.

Here’s the video of the bowl-out:

Uthappa was one of the bowlers, alongside Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh, who hit the stumps for India whereas Yasir Arafat, Umar Gul and Shahid Afridi all missed their targets.

Bowl-out was later replaced by Super Over in the shortest format of the game.
