Australia is 1-0 ahead in the five-match T20I series. West Indies are confident they will take on Australia in St Lucia’s second game. The match will start at 7:30 PM (local) and 5:00 AM (IST) on July 13.
Nicholas Pooran, in the absence of Kieron Pollard, was directing West Indies’ remarkable comeback to win the T20I opening match by 18 runs. Australia appeared to be at ease at 108 for 4, while West Indies were chasing victory at 146. The Aussies lost their last six wickets by just 19 runs after Ben McDermott was dismissed.
West Indies have responded superbly after losing their previous series 3-2 to South Africa. They snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in the first T20I and thrashed Australia by big margins in the next two. They have already pocketed the series and achieved the feat without regular skipper Kieron Pollard. Nicholas Pooran has led them well in his absence and having the likes of Gayle, Bravo and Russell has certainly helped.
Today will be the 9th game this group are playing in less than three weeks and it is evident that they have started to click. Almost everyone has made a contribution at one point or the other and the confidence is so high that the selectors have decided to rest the in-form pair of Obed McCoy and Shimron Hetmyer. Kevin Sinclair and Akeal Hosein have been added to strength the spin department, while Pollard is also set to return. He would like to carry on the winning run not just into the next two games but also in the series against Pakistan.
Record of chasing teams: Won – 8, Lost – 6, N/R – 0
