Williamson turns No.1 Test batsman

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson has overtaken Australia’s Steve Smith and Virat Kohli of India to be the No.1 Test batsman in ICC rankings.

Williamson hit 129, his 23rd Test century, in the first innings of the first Test against Pakistan at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. Previously, he made a career-best 251 against West Indies in the same month. The Kiwi was at number three before the start of the match.

Smith and Kohli were leading the top-two spots prior to Boxing Day Tests. However, with Smith’s off-form and Kohli missing the rest of Australia tour, Williamson has displaced Smith at the top.

Williamson has 890 points to his name while Kohli 879 and Smith 877.

Meanwhile, Pat Cummins (906 points) is still dominating the bowlers rankings, 51 points ahead of No.2 Stuart Broad.

Ravindra Jadeja holds his No.3 slot in the all-rounder rankings but has jumped from 389 points to 416 following his performance at the MCG. He is closing the gap with number two Jason Holder, 423. Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan is No.4 with 366 points.
