Cricket is finally going to resume on July 8, Wednesday at the Ageas Bowl as West Indies and England lock horns with each other. The sport was suspended in the month of March owing to COVID-19 pandemic.

The two teams will lock horns in a three-match Test series and it will be quite interesting to see how the game progresses. It is certain that it is going to be a daunting task for Windies as they will be playing in the English conditions.

Meanwhile, Former West Indies captain Brian Lara reckons Jason Holder-led team will have to try and finish the game inside four days itself as they won’t be able to get a positive result if the Test matches against England go into the fifth and final day of the match.

Brian Lara reckons that England are ‘overwhelming favourites’ to beat West Indies in their own den while also suggested a game plan for the visitors to follow in the upcoming clash.

“They have to be able to pounce immediately,” Brian Lara was quoted as saying by BBC Sport. “England are not beaten very easily at home and are overwhelming favourites.

“They have to hit the road running and stamp their authority on England.

“I don’t think they can last five days, so they have to take these games in four days. They have to establish a lead and keep it.”

West Indies can take pride in the fact that they had thrashed England by 2-1 during the previous series between the two teams that was played in the Caribbean Islands. However, they didn’t get the better of England in England since the 1988 tour. Brian Lara reckons that the first day of the first Test will be important for West Indies as it will set the solid foundation for the rest of the series.

“It’s going to be a series that’s watched all around the world and everybody is hoping to see a competitive series. It would mean a lot to all West Indians if they could win. If they play good cricket on the first day of the Test series, show they have the mettle to perform against England, that’s the key,” he added.
